In 1 Kings 3:5-14 we learn that God visited Solomon in a dream and asked him, "what shall I give you?" Solomon could have asked for anything! A bigger palace, more money, more respect, a longer life, but Solomon responded, "I am a little child (inexperienced) I do not know how to go out or come in. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil." - 1 Kings 3:7,9
1 Kings 3:10 says that Solomon's speech pleased the Lord. In fact, his speech pleased the Lord so much so that God not only gave Solomon an understanding and discerning heart, but He also gave him riches and honor.
A question I believe we should all ask ourselves is, "Does my speech please the Lord?"
What pleased God about Solomon's speech was that his speech showed God that he was humble, willing, and selfless.
Some of us speak with a vocabulary that is polar opposite to that. Some of us have a speech that shows God that we are prideful, unwilling, and selfish. These are all character traits of Satan. Anything related to Satan is destined for failure.
The good news is, it is never too late to change. As you humble yourself before God, He will exalt you and richly bless you. Don't be afraid to admit when you need help. Sometimes you've just got to admit that you don't have it all together; and that's okay. God is ready and willing to help you & God will always bless a humble heart.
