“Then Adonijah said, “You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their expectations on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom has been turned over, and has become my brother’s; for it was his from the LORD.”
I Kings 2:15 NKJV
The words "all Israel had set their expectations on me" stands out to me.
According to natural Kingdom law, Adonijah should have become King after his father David passed away. The reason for this was because he was the oldest living son. All of Israel had set their expectations upon Adonijah becoming King. However, God had other plans, and handed David’s throne over to his other son, Solomon.
Aren't you glad that people's expectations of you mean nothing to God? Whether people expect highly or lowly of you, God's plans will always prevail.
Some of us may have been thought to be the least likely to succeed in life, but when God got His hands on you, He called you blessed, highly favored, and prosperous in all of your ways. Aren't you grateful to have a God that has good plans for you? Regardless of people's thoughts, opinions, or expectations of you, God loves you and God has chosen you. Whatever God has for you is for you! The Kingdom was a blessing for Solomon from the Lord, and there was nothing Adonijah could have done to take it. People can't steal the blessing that the Lord has for you because it is for you.
