What type of song do you sing when hard times come your way? Do you sing songs of discouragement? "I don't know how I'm going to get through this one. Why do bad things always happen to me?" Could it be that bad things are attracted to you because of the songs that you sing?
Instead of singing songs of discouragement, I want to encourage you to sing a new song. Sing songs of praise even when things aren't going your way. You may have lost your job, but don't be discouraged. Sing a new song, "I lost my job, but God is my provider, so it must be because He has something better in store for me with even greater provision." Maybe your children are not walking with the Lord the way that you would like them to, but don't be discouraged. Sing a new song, "My kids may be getting into some trouble, but God is just working on their testimony, it's only a matter of time before they surrender their lives to Him."
Don't allow your situations to dictate your praise; instead let your praise dictate your situations. If you continue to sing new songs to the Lord in your hard times, not only will God bring you peace that surpasses all understanding, but He will quickly turn your situations around.
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. - Psalm 96:1
